Additional Information about K2 Kung Fujas 2012 Skis & Squire Bindings |
|
|
|
Pep Fujas created his pro-model to conquer everything on his mountain hit list. Laps in the park, wide open bowls, pillow lines, tree skiing and even bonks and jibs are all fair game on the Kung Fujas. This one ski quiver is designed with All-Terrain Rocker and a 102mm waist to handle diverse terrain and snow conditions. You can also remove the tip and tail rivets and attach the K2 pre-cut skins for a further adventure.
Features:
Core: Aspen is a solid and dense wood and is known for its inherent strength and durability, this, coupled with Paulownia which is an eco-friendly, fast growing renewable wood that is incredibly strong and lightweight means this ski can retain its strength whilst remaining light and nimble.
Triaxial Braiding: Triaxial braiding consists of braiding fibreglass around a wood core to provide a torsional rigidity for added control. This process interlocks strands of fibreglass around a milled wood core. Triaxially braided skis are incredibly energetic and responsive, while maintaining a level of ease in both expert and entry level skis.
Twintech Sidewall Construction: This Twin Tip specific construction increase the durability of sidewall skis. A traditional sidewall construction produces a 90 degree angle where the top material and sidewall meet. The Twin Tech construction actually rolls the top material into the sidewall reducing the angle that is prone to abuse.
Bi-Directional Taper: The tip is slightly wider in width than the tail. This lets the ski perform exceptionally well while skiing in the forward direction, but the taper enables the skier to have similar switch arcs for better and more consistent switch riding.
All-terrain Rocker: Designed for all snow conditions, Features an elevated tip and tail for added performance in variable or soft snow and easier turn initiation, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy and edge-hold in firm conditions.
Tip/Tail hardware: K2 Tip and Tail rivet plates were developed for durability, but have now been modified to allow the additional option of a pre-cut climbing skin onto the ski. Simply screw out the centre rivet, attach K2 skins and you are ready for your backcountry needs.
Powder Tip: The widest point of this tip is the forward contact point as opposed to 7cm in front of it like most shaped skis. This design makes the ski more stable and predictable because it won’t hook or grab erratically in windblown snow and other variable conditions that you’re likely to encounter in the backcountry.

Our Opinion:
Another great ski designed for all mountain skiing. This ski comes with the Schizo binding option which makes it extremely versatile. You can put your bindings forwards towards core centre if you are spinning or will be skiing switch, or you can bring your binding back to boot centre for a more standard ski feeling, and much better performance in the powder. We found this ski surprisingly quick and agile for being so wide underfoot. It is possible to get these carving on piste and we were all shocked at their on-piste performance, however they do excel in the back country and playing about in the powder. For being so big they were surprisingly light and had good pop, meaning no matter what the conditions you could always have fun on the Kung Fujas.
IS IT FOR ME?
Great for those who are an advanced skier and are looking to get a wider ski to really push the boundaries of their backcountry skiing. These will still allow piste skiing, and so if you want a back country ski but cannot afford two skis for piste and off-piste then this would be a great ski to go for. Fun, dynamic, light and stunning graphics all combine to create a true ‘One ski quiver’.

Please Note: Priority shipping orders need to be received by 12:30pm Monday-Thursday for a next working day delivery on in stock items. Orders placed on Saturday or Sunday using priority shipping will be shipped on the following Monday. Our couriers and Royal Mail do NOT collect from us on Saturday or Sunday. For a Saturday delivery please contact us.
Snowpulse bags, due to the nature of the gas canister in this system, we cannot ship internationally at our standard pricing, as a dangerous goods agent is required to prepare the shipment. In these cases we will contact you with a revised cost before proceeding with the order.

Ski Buying Guide
There is a lot of information on the web, in magazines, and from friends on how to choose the right skis, and of course the correct length.
We were there once, buying our first pair. It's a big investment, but the payback if you choose the right skis is amazing; retail skis are superior to rental skis, only you have used them so they will last a lot longer, and you can also gain valuable ski time on the mountain not having to get into the ski and boot rental queue.
We have broken our guide into two sections - Skis 101, a breakdown of what a ski actually is, all the geeky words used, and what they really mean to you. And then we have the Ski Buyers Guide below, to help guide you through your ski purchase.
We hope you find both of these guides useful, and remember, we are only a phone-call, email or short trip away if you need further advice on your purchase. If you are buying skis, we are here to help!
Buying Skis
Step 1 - Which Type Of Ski?
The first step in buying your own skis, is to work out the type of skier you are and the skier you want to be.
Skis come in a variety of types. Here are the key ones:
Piste Skis - These are suited to skiing on piste, in good snow conditions. Some models use technology direct from the racing scene. Piste skis are great carving skis. Piste skis may struggle a little when skiing in less perfect conditions, and also if you wish to go off-piste.
All Mountain Skis (Or All Condition Skis) - These skis allow you to ski in a variety of snow conditions. So whether it is icy or slushy, an all-conditions ski will perform better than a piste ski. There is sometimes a loss of carving ability, but the modern all-conditions skis such as Volkl AC skis and Attiva women's skis have the latest technology to maintain carving ability.
Back Country Skis - These skis are for venturing out of bounds, hiking all over the mountain. They will remain versatile enough to ski the whole mountain, and also be lighter than normal to make it easier to carry them or travel uphill with them. Normally these are supplied without bindings, and you select an appropriate binding to suit your needs (See our Ski 101 section)
Off-Piste Skis (Or free ride, powder skis) - These skis are designed for skiing in powder and off-piste conditions. They will generally be wider to help with floating in the snow, and be a little more forgiving to give you more feel in powder and to absorb impacts from jumping/landing.
Which Length Of Ski Do I need?
You know the type of ski you want, you now know what each brand. Now you just need to work out the correct length.
This chart is to give you a rough indication of size. Height is not the main factor with modern carving skis; weight and ability are the two key things to consider. You can contact us any time for advice on ski lengths.
If you are between sizes, a shorter ski will give you shorter turns and a longer ski will be a little faster. If you are comparing to old non-carving skis you will see modern skis tend to be used in shorter lengths.
If you are buying a piste ski this chart should be accurate, if you are looking at an all-conditions ski, and again are between sizes, we suggest the lower of the two lengths. If you are a female skier, also choose the shorter length

Next, adjust the length to match your ability:

Decide on your ski level using the above chart, and then make the following adjustments:

REMEMBER! This chart is just a starting guide. If you have rented a ski length recently and found that this suited you, do NOT be afraid to select that size if it differs from the above - Length is a personal thing!
This should be enough to help direct you to the ski for you, but if you need more help just contact us here at Edge & Wax.
