Additional Information about K2 Superfree 2012 Skis & Bindings |

|
The K2 SuperFree all-mountain women’s ski is the most versatile K2 Womens ski ski in the line. The triaxially braided Bioflex core offers an extra level of control and smooth turns across the mountain. Swift turns will come naturally on both groomed snow and off-piste, so hop on a pair and set yourself free!
Features:
Core: All of the k2 women’s skis use a combination of Aspen, Paulownia and Bamboo in a unique core known as BioFlex, a process where a dense Aspen core underfoot is fused with lightweight paulownia at the tip and tail to reduce swing-weight. K2 developed this technology specifically for women; lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, yet sturdy and offering high-performance. This has the Bioflex 2 core which is 70% Aspen and 30% Paulownia. This reduces swing weight and increases performance
Triaxial Braiding: Triaxial braiding consists of braiding fibreglass around a wood core to provide a torsional rigidity for added control. This process interlocks strands of fibreglass around a milled wood core. Triaxially braided skis are incredibly energetic and responsive, while maintaining a level of ease in both expert and entry level skis.
Hybritech Sidewalls: Hybritech is a unique blend of sidewall and cap contractions. The construction combines the accuracy, power and performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight characteristics and smooth turn initiation of cap construction
Mod Technology: high-Performance Suspension System Mod functions by absorbing vibrations and impact loads along the entire ski, providing stronger edge-hold and a higher degree of power and control. Mod is a secondary core that flexes and moves on top of the primary core, allowing the overall ski flex to be unaffected. The optimum location and thickness of mass differs from men to women. The aesthetic look of the Mod shape has also been customized with a svelte and more stylized appearance that graphically ties into the design of the skis.
Mod Monic: A Focused Mass Dampener; The Monic is a solid zinc mass that works in conjunction with the Mod structure to focus mass-dampening at the targeted location. Although the location for this targeted mass dampening is consistent between the men’s and Women’s models, the amount of focused mass is reduced in the women’s version. The women’s Mod Monic is designed to accent the overall look without sacrificing function.
All-terrain Rocker: Designed for all snow conditions, Features an elevated tip for added performance in variable or soft snow and easier turn initiation, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy and edge-hold in firm conditions.
Specification:
Geometry: 120/76/104
Performance: Groomed 50% / Ungroomed 50%
Radius: 14m on 160cm example
Construction: Triaxial Braid – Hybritech Sidewall
Core: Bioflex 2 Wood Core for women
Bindings: Marker ERS 11.0 TC (Recommended binding for this ski)
Our Opinion:
This is the Replacement for the 2010 K2 Free Luv skis. These proved to be very popular last year and so rather than playing with the geometry that made this ski such a popular and diverse ski, K2 decided to keep this the same, but improve the skis performance by adding a Hybritech Side wall (this draws the benefits of a Capped ski, making it lighter and increasing its flexibility, whilst still allowing great power transference to the edges).
To compliment this they have also changed the construction method from a torsion box to a triaxial braid. This means the ski is torsionally extremely rigid, meaning it can perform aggressive, hard carving turns on piste and will be responsive to the lightest touch, but still has enough flex in the tip to sit up in powder.
NOTE: Watch out for some ski shops selling this ski with an alternative binding. It makes the ski overall a little bit cheaper, but to get the full performance from this ski as the designer intended we feel the Marker ERS binding which integrates with the ski, offers secure mounting, the best performance, and of course is colour matched to the ski!
Is this for me?:
Designed for good intermediate to expert skiers who really want one ski to cope with everything! Although only 76 underfoot it will sit up in powder thanks to its All Terrain Rocker, but its recent additions for this season has meant that on piste it really flies. We would recommend this for any good skier, or even the progressing intermediate who will be looking to take their first steps into off piste skiing, but would like a ski that can excel in both groomed and ungroomed conditions.

For skis this is 10am to allow us time to wax and pack your skis. Orders placed on Saturday or Sunday using priority shipping will be shipped on the following Monday. Our couriers and Royal Mail do NOT collect from us on Saturday or Sunday. For a Saturday delivery please contact us. Snowpulse bags, due to the nature of the gas cannister in this system, we cannot ship internationally at our standard pricing, as a dangerous goods agent is required to prepare the shipment. In these cases we will contact you with a revised cost before proceeding with the order.

Ski Buying Guide
There is a lot of information on the web, in magazines, and from friends on how to choose the right skis, and of course the correct length.
We were there once, buying our first pair. It's a big investment, but the payback if you choose the right skis is amazing; retail skis are superior to rental skis, only you have used them so they will last a lot longer, and you can also gain valuable ski time on the mountain not having to get into the ski and boot rental queue.
We have broken our guide into two sections - Skis 101, a breakdown of what a ski actually is, all the geeky words used, and what they really mean to you. And then we have the Ski Buyers Guide below, to help guide you through your ski purchase.
We hope you find both of these guides useful, and remember, we are only a phone-call, email or short trip away if you need further advice on your purchase. If you are buying skis, we are here to help!
Buying Skis
Step 1 - Which Type Of Ski?
The first step in buying your own skis, is to work out the type of skier you are and the skier you want to be.
Skis come in a variety of types. Here are the key ones:
Piste Skis - These are suited to skiing on piste, in good snow conditions. Some models use technology direct from the racing scene. Piste skis are great carving skis. Piste skis may struggle a little when skiing in less perfect conditions, and also if you wish to go off-piste.
All Mountain Skis (Or All Condition Skis) - These skis allow you to ski in a variety of snow conditions. So whether it is icy or slushy, an all-conditions ski will perform better than a piste ski. There is sometimes a loss of carving ability, but the modern all-conditions skis such as Volkl AC skis and Attiva women's skis have the latest technology to maintain carving ability.
Back Country Skis - These skis are for venturing out of bounds, hiking all over the mountain. They will remain versatile enough to ski the whole mountain, and also be lighter than normal to make it easier to carry them or travel uphill with them. Normally these are supplied without bindings, and you select an appropriate binding to suit your needs (See our Ski 101 section)
Off-Piste Skis (Or free ride, powder skis) - These skis are designed for skiing in powder and off-piste conditions. They will generally be wider to help with floating in the snow, and be a little more forgiving to give you more feel in powder and to absorb impacts from jumping/landing.
Which Length Of Ski Do I need?
You know the type of ski you want, you now know what each brand. Now you just need to work out the correct length.
This chart is to give you a rough indication of size. Height is not the main factor with modern carving skis; weight and ability are the two key things to consider. You can contact us any time for advice on ski lengths.
If you are between sizes, a shorter ski will give you shorter turns and a longer ski will be a little faster. If you are comparing to old non-carving skis you will see modern skis tend to be used in shorter lengths.
If you are buying a piste ski this chart should be accurate, if you are looking at an all-conditions ski, and again are between sizes, we suggest the lower of the two lengths. If you are a female skier, also choose the shorter length

Next, adjust the length to match your ability:

Decide on your ski level using the above chart, and then make the following adjustments:

REMEMBER! This chart is just a starting guide. If you have rented a ski length recently and found that this suited you, do NOT be afraid to select that size if it differs from the above - Length is a personal thing!
This should be enough to help direct you to the ski for you, but if you need more help just contact us here at Edge & Wax.
