Additional Information about Scott Venture 2012 Skis (Skis Only) |
|
|
|

One of the stand out skis of the 2011-2012 season, this is one of Scott' most versatile skis yet thanks to a sidewall construction combined with a Venturi Tip & Tail. It deserves its silver award from the Fall Line ski test, and was a close for gold. From the Edge & Wax Ski Test Team's notes, we can confirm that this was our flat deck ski best on test. Stability scored highly and edge hold despite the wider width this ski offers over other Scott models such as the Mission and Crusade.
SKI SPECIFICATION
The Scott Venture is Scott's latest freeride all mountain ski, with next generation rocker combined with a Venturi Tip and Venturi Tail for all mountain performance. This ski is the step up from the Scott Mission, to give enhanced versatility to those now wanting to venture even further afield.
The core features a wood construction wrapped in a triaxial laminate sheet for responsiveness when on the piste whilst allowing flex when off the sides into the powder. This combined with the dual radius geometry makes this very easy to ski when just wishing to cruise the mountain.
The ski features a mild Venturi Tip rocker, to allow for easier turn initiation on or off piste, and a factory diamond finish on the high quality bases and edges.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
Dual Radius - Traditional skis have a fixed radius that determines the length of every turn. Scott skis combine two radii (dual radius) to create the sidecut or “shape” of the ski. By incorporating the Dual Radius concept, the ski can turn when you want it to turn, the result is a more versatile ski which is not confined to one type of skiing or terrain.
Pre Track - In developing Pre-Track, Scott designed skis with wide tips and/or slightly turned up tails. This allows for a variable effective edge depending on terrain. With Pre-Track, Scott skis employ a smaller effective edge for short radius turns on groomed slopes and a longer effective edge when making bigger turns or skiing off-piste. The result is a more precise, stable, reliable and versatile ski
Venturi Tail - Already proved on the Pure ski that this features gives a better stability in turn completion in any quality of snow.
Venturi Tip Rocker - Venturi-Tip Rocker combines a hollowed shape with a rocker tip. The resulting Venturi-Tip Rocker design effectively decreases the skis’ surface pressure in deep snow, while Rocker allows the tip to be elevated to the surface, yielding a highly versatile performer in both deep snow and variable conditions. This feature offers excellent float and turn initiation whilst also offering stability at high speeds and improving ski handling due to the reduction in surface pressure at the tip
OUR OPINION
This is a stunning ski with a deep lacquer finish oozing quality craftsmanship. No matter where we took this ski it performed, and did so beautifully. This was easily one of our favourite skis when out testing and with its Venturi tip and tail it offered superior stability whilst in the powder, yet was still quick in the turns and aggressive on piste. It really is hard to find a fault with this ski that offered the perfect blend of edge hold and stability in all conditions. You cannot put this ski into one category as it excels in so many, so in this instance we will stick with the manufactures suggestions and would categorise this as a 30%Piste 70% off piste ski.
IS IT FOR ME?
We would say that this ski sits between the Mission and the Crusade in terms of stiffness however you will find it incredibly responsive and Ideal for those of you who are looking for a great all mountain, go anywhere, get stuck into anything ski. This means that this Ski would be suitable for the progressing intermediate to advanced skier, although it is hard to limit this ski to those ranks as both novices and professions have been out on these and have not had a bad word to say about them.
Here is a handy reference chart to give you an indication of your correct ski size. Remember that this chart is just a starting guide. Priority shipping does however move your order to the front of the workshop queue for priority set-up. ** Not Available to Scottish Highlands & Islands Please Note: Priority shipping orders need to be received by 13:30pm Monday-Thursday for a next working day delivery on in stock items. For skis this is 10am to allow us time to wax and pack your skis. Orders placed on Saturday or Sunday using priority shipping will be shipped on the following Monday. Our couriers and Royal Mail do NOT collect from us on Saturday or Sunday. For a Saturday delivery please contact us. Snowpulse bags, due to the nature of the gas cannister in this system, we cannot ship internationally at our standard pricing, as a dangerous goods agent is required to prepare the shipment. In these cases we will contact you with a revised cost before proceeding with the order.

Ski Buying Guide
There is a lot of information on the web, in magazines, and from friends on how to choose the right skis, and of course the correct length.
We were there once, buying our first pair. It's a big investment, but the payback if you choose the right skis is amazing; retail skis are superior to rental skis, only you have used them so they will last a lot longer, and you can also gain valuable ski time on the mountain not having to get into the ski and boot rental queue.
We have broken our guide into two sections - Skis 101, a breakdown of what a ski actually is, all the geeky words used, and what they really mean to you. And then we have the Ski Buyers Guide below, to help guide you through your ski purchase.
We hope you find both of these guides useful, and remember, we are only a phone-call, email or short trip away if you need further advice on your purchase. If you are buying skis, we are here to help!
Buying Skis
Step 1 - Which Type Of Ski?
The first step in buying your own skis, is to work out the type of skier you are and the skier you want to be.
Skis come in a variety of types. Here are the key ones:
Piste Skis - These are suited to skiing on piste, in good snow conditions. Some models use technology direct from the racing scene. Piste skis are great carving skis. Piste skis may struggle a little when skiing in less perfect conditions, and also if you wish to go off-piste.
All Mountain Skis (Or All Condition Skis) - These skis allow you to ski in a variety of snow conditions. So whether it is icy or slushy, an all-conditions ski will perform better than a piste ski. There is sometimes a loss of carving ability, but the modern all-conditions skis such as Volkl AC skis and Attiva women's skis have the latest technology to maintain carving ability.
Back Country Skis - These skis are for venturing out of bounds, hiking all over the mountain. They will remain versatile enough to ski the whole mountain, and also be lighter than normal to make it easier to carry them or travel uphill with them. Normally these are supplied without bindings, and you select an appropriate binding to suit your needs (See our Ski 101 section)
Off-Piste Skis (Or free ride, powder skis) - These skis are designed for skiing in powder and off-piste conditions. They will generally be wider to help with floating in the snow, and be a little more forgiving to give you more feel in powder and to absorb impacts from jumping/landing.
Which Length Of Ski Do I need?
You know the type of ski you want, you now know what each brand. Now you just need to work out the correct length.
This chart is to give you a rough indication of size. Height is not the main factor with modern carving skis; weight and ability are the two key things to consider. You can contact us any time for advice on ski lengths.
If you are between sizes, a shorter ski will give you shorter turns and a longer ski will be a little faster. If you are comparing to old non-carving skis you will see modern skis tend to be used in shorter lengths.
If you are buying a piste ski this chart should be accurate, if you are looking at an all-conditions ski, and again are between sizes, we suggest the lower of the two lengths. If you are a female skier, also choose the shorter length

Next, adjust the length to match your ability:

Decide on your ski level using the above chart, and then make the following adjustments:

REMEMBER! This chart is just a starting guide. If you have rented a ski length recently and found that this suited you, do NOT be afraid to select that size if it differs from the above - Length is a personal thing!
This should be enough to help direct you to the ski for you, but if you need more help just contact us here at Edge & Wax.
