Product Description
The Volkl name is synonymous with alpine ski racing and they have been active in international professional racing since 1970. This has allowed Volkl to develop numerous technical achievements as well as constantly pushing them for real innovation in all their ski models. This has led them to develop the new SPEEDWALL and POWER SWITCH (INDIVIDUAL) technology for the 2010/11 season.
However don't let this intimidate you. Volkl make equipment for every skier, from beginners to professionals, from Rookies to Olympic medallists across all disciplines of the sport.

This Season The Grizzly has a gleaming new Western look, its die-cut top surface with real wood inserts showcase quintessential craftsmanship. Add to that the technical features that make it the peerless choice for all-condition athletes and a ski that dominates any terrain. At 89mm, it has adequate surface area for floating on powder yet also offers the playful handling of a narrower model for steep slopes and icier terrain. Its Versatility traces backto several factors mentioned below:

Features of The Grizzly include:

Power Switch: This dial, situated on the rear of the ski is used to either compress or relax two carbon fibre rods in the ski's core. This changes the ski's stiffness and flex responsiveness. The mechanism is completely integrated into the ski's construction, functions in all conditions and holds up flawlessly even under frequent use. It has 3 settings; Cruise, where the rods are released, this is ideal for a relaxed ride and allows easy handling on soft terrain. Dynamic; For this the system is 50% active and the ski features a refined mix of elasticity and energy, and lastly Power; This is the stiffest setup and enables a more powerful and aggressive skiing style

Motion iPT Wideride bindings:: Marker and Volkl developed the world first integrated ski binding system for skis over 80mm. Like the proven and successful iPT system (Internal Power Technology) the iPT WIDERIDE consists of a ski attachment built within the skis structure and a binding which engages the attachment securely and efficiently. This new binding is 30% wider than conventional bindings, power transfer is more direct and with it being 11% lower than conventional binding systems and 20% lighter it allows for greater agility and unprecedented nimbleness for mid fat skis.

XTD Sensor Wood Core: These skis are constructed with several sheet of wood glued together this is done with a patented special process, so that the core of the wood can retract better. There are two additional wooden cores over each of the edges, for the entire length of the ski. The XTD SENSOR WOOD CORE offers an incomparably compact skiing feel with a harmonious flex. In addition, the stability of the ski also increases enormously, with optimum lightness and ease of turning.

Double Grip XTD: Since the invention of the carving style, an optimum edge grip has been an essential component of skiing. In order to make the spread of power over the edges of the skis as good as possible, VÖLKL has developed the DOUBLE GRIP principle: double the height, double the edge grip! With DOUBLE GRIP XTD, the additional WOOD CORE stretches through the entire length of the ski. The constant flex of the skis becomes rounder and more harmonious as a result. The result is the best and most precise edge grip that has ever been developed. Unshakable hold that you can rely on, so you can carve your tracks in the snow at high speed.

Our Opinion
Its hard to say which Volkl ski is our favorite here at Edge and Wax, however The Grizzly's ability to ski any condition perfectly puts it right up there amoung one of our all time greatest skis. When in Cruise mode this ski is a great for taking off piste, down those blues or that first run to get your legs again, however turn the dial and put it in Power Mode and you have an incrediblely aggressive piste ski that's not only extremely responsive, but also has amazing edge hold on those icy blacks.
