Servicing

We pride ourselves on giving a premium service and this can only be achieved by tuning and servicing of winter sports equipment by hand and not just relying on machines. It is a more prolonged process, but ultimately will result in improved performance of your equipment, and also help enhance the life of your board or skis. Our belief in correct tuning has led us to open the Boot Camp Tech training Facility (www.bctt.co.UK) and the same instructors that teach staff to service skis around the world run our extensive workshop.

If you have only ever had a quick in-resort service or basic waxing, you will be in for a pleasant shock – We WILL bring your skis back to life!

We can also offer servicing by post, where we can collect and return your skis and board for you. There is an £16 charge in addition to the service costs below. We also offer a PRIORITY service. Our turnaround is one of the best in the industry thanks to us having FIVE experienced technicians on site. However, for those needing it sooner than our current turnaround time a priority service is available at a surcharge.

Service takes a minimum of 24hrs and requires the customer’s ski boots

Thorough cleaning of bases using a hot wax scrape with premium base restoration wax from Dominator

Inspection of bases and edges. Repair any standard base scratches with P-Tex gun

Diamond Stone grind to achieve a flat and smooth base and base edge

Hand tuning of base edge and setting of side edge to factory spec or customers own requirements

Race structure added to bases using computer controlled 44 programme diamond stone grinding

Hand polish edges using increasingly fine grades of Diamond files

Detuning of edges at the tip and tail

Hot wax of bases with a waxing iron by hand (not a machine), using premium ski wax, this process is repeated 3 times over the course of several hours to ensure maximum wax penetration

Excess wax is brushed (not scraped) away and structured using varying grades of base brushes

Final cloth polish, removal of wax from edges and application of Zardoz NOTWax Teflon treatment

Complete inspection of bindings and binding bolts including calibration testing to ensure bindings are releasing at the correct time. A Calibration report will be provided with the serviced skis

Note: Summer Storage Option:

If requested we can leave the final coat of wax on the ski or board for summer storage. Before you go on your next trip you should scrape off the wax from the base and edges. Alternatively contact us to arrange for the wax to be scraped and structured so that the equipment is ready to use. This is charged at just £5.00. We will also check your edges at this point.

BATALEON SNOWBOARD SERVICING (+£10)

Bataleon boards with TBT technology require a different servicing process. Edge & Wax offer Bataleon snowboard servicing following the correct procedures. We have an adjustable Wintersteiger base grinding machine which can be adjusted to apply the correct pressure in the correct zones on the snowboard base. We also then apply the authentic Bataleon snowboard wax, this is a two part wax to treat the TBT zones to enhance glide and add longevity to the snowboard base. REMOTE SERVICING (+£16)

We offer a remote service for Full Service jobs only. For an additional £16 we will collect and return your skis/board to you using Fedex Courier. In order to use the remote service option, secure your skis or snowboard in its bag with plenty of packing (an old blanket works well if bubble wrap isn’t handy) and inside the bag please place an A4 sheet of paper with your (from) address and telephone number, and on the reverse our (to) address: Edge & Wax, Unit 15 Huffwood Park, Partridge Green. West Sussex RH13 8AU. This is just in case the courier label is removed. Then call us on 01403 713 470. We will arrange the collection on a convenient day between 9-5pm. Once the item(s) are here we will inspect them and contact you to confirm the total cost so you can authorise us to proceed. We will then service your equipment, package it back up safely and contact you to confirm dispatch and arrange payment. We can turn around jobs remotely in as little as 5 days with our priority service but please allow up to 10 days. If you are in a hurry let us know, and we will always do our best to accommodate you!

DIAMOND STONE BASE RACE STRUCTURE FINISH – (+£10)

Would you like the same finish as a world cup racer on your bases? We have a Wintersteiger computer controlled diamond stone machine, which with up to 45 programmes can be set to structure your skis to your exact requirements. A diamond structure finish is often found on brand new skis, but diminishes over time, so let us treat your ski to the ultimate base finish, to help ensure great wax application, much improved glide, and better overall performance!

BINDING TESTING AND ANALYSIS - (£20.00 / Pair Including Report)

The Wintersteiger Binding Test Machine In our Winter Sports Workshop

We operate a Wintersteiger binding test machine, to allow us to test bindings to the latest DIN requirements. There are very few of these machine currently active in the UK. If you have concerns over your bindings, or want them tested and set to perfection, then we can do this for you and provide a printed report for your inspection.

We cannot recommend testing your bindings highly enough. We have seen first hand what a malfunctioning binding can do, so treat your bindings and yourself to this service.

The binding test machine tests the following elements of any ski binding, including older models and touring versions:

DIN calculation using customer supplied data, to give accurate recommendation as per DIN ski binding chart settings
Nose-piece release tension check – Left and right boot exit simulation
Rear heel release tension check – Upwards force boot exit simulation
Cyclic testing – Simulation of side to side movement of the boot within the binding to test that the binding is balanced effectively
Visual inspection of all mounting points to check that they are to tolerance
Treatment of bindings with Holmenkol Binding Protect Spray – A lubricant and de-icer specifically for ski binding systems

If you need same day or while-you-wait servicing, we can offer this service by booking in advance (subject to availability) We make an additional charge for this service as servicing is normally undertaken in batches.

BINDING MOUNTING
£20 Rail Systems & Snowboards | £40 Flat Deck Drilled Systems | Free when bought from Edge & Wax

For skis we will use one of our extensive range of binding jigs to mount your bindings correctly and safely onto your skis. We will then test the mounting in our Wintersteiger binding test machine. We can fit bindings to rail systems, brand new flat deck skis, or to skis with existing drill holes. For skis with existing holes, we will fill the holes to retain the integrity of the core of the ski and give advice on correct binding placement should you find that the existing holes are in the way.

For snowboards, we will mount your bindings to your requirements, and can give you advice on this if required, ensuring the bolts are all carefully mounted and secured to the correct torque.
